Becoming a Member of the Waterworks Museum is a great way to protect an important aspect of our industrial heritage and to support one of Herefordshire’s leading visitor attractions.
Members play an important role in the governance of the Museum. Our Council of Management (our Trustee body) is accountable to the Members of the Museum. It is the Members who through the annual general meeting vote to re-appoint the Trustees each year and who approve the Trustees annual report and accounts and who would approve any major changes, such as to the constitution or charitable purpose of the Museum.
Members are fantastic ambassadors for the Museum in the community. About a third of our annual visitors come to the Museum as a result of word of mouth and personal recommendation, and Members are excellent at identifying potential new volunteers – as we always have volunteer vacancies that need filling.
Membership also brings with it many personal benefits, including free access to the Museum for the subscription year. Members are also invited to an annual social event in March and they receive a copy of our biannual award-winning journal, WaterWords.
WaterWords, which illustrate events and activities at the Museum and showcases the fantastic work of our Volunteers.
At any time, the Museum typically has been 150 and 200 Members, but Trustees would like to see this number grow.
Most Members reside in Herefordshire and the neighbouring counties, but also from much further afield including overseas. These Members are unlikely to visit too frequently but are happy to support the work of the Museum from afar.
