Overshot Waterwheel 1907

  • Overshot waterwheel made by the Eagle Foundry of Aberystwyth.
  • Originally installed at a farm in Dolaucothi in Carmarthenshire, to drive workshop machinery.
  • The wheel was mounted at the end of a barn with the axle at ground level.
  • Water from a stream was directed over the top of the wheel.
  • A circumferential gear engaged with a pinion to power a lay shaft into the building.
  • The wheel is now provided with pumped water in a closed circulation system.
  • Wheel diameter: 4.3 metres (14 feet).
