Rather than completely cancelling the Museum's 4th annual Steampunk Festival due to the Covad-19 lockdown, the Directors decided to host a ‘virtual’ Steampunk Festival by issuing a selection of photographs and short videos from previous Steampunk events.
Published material also included a video specially recorded for the 2020 festival by conjurer, magician, and storyteller Greg Chapman, who filmed his contribution from his own Covid-19 lockdown on the Isle of Wight.
Museum Chairman, Richard Curtis, said: “Hosting a ‘virtual’ event such as this was something completely new for us. We wanted to do something different to keep the museum alive during this period of lockdown and, hopefully, to entice more visitors to come to see our collection when we eventually re-open.”
‘This was also an opportunity to improve public understanding of what a Steampunk festival is and to get the message across that its good family entertainment suitable for all ages. It was also good to be able to promote the work of our Steampunk performers in these challenging times.’
