Museum Opening Times 2010

Opening times:
The Waterworks Museum is open every Tuesday all year round, except two weeks at Christmas and New Year. Opening times 11:00am to 4:00 pm. Exhibits powered by electric motors are usually working but the steam and internal combustion engines are not normally working unless being tested during maintenance.

  • Members of the Waterworks Museum
  • Members of the Museums Association (cards to be shown)
  • Visitors bearing complimentary admission cards (cards to be given up)
  • Coach drivers/couriers plus free tea/coffee

Group visits

A pre-booked group visit comprises

  • welcome cup of tea/coffee on arrival
  • talk on the history of water, the history of the building and the story of the Museum
  • guided tour of the Museum
  • at the end of the tour a video of the River Wye may be seen

The Museum can be put in steam for a group visit, by prior arrangement, at extra cost.

Group visits can be arranged at most times of the year. However the large engines are drained down for safety reason from November to March.

Charges must be settled no later than the day of the visit.

Education visits
Pre-booked educational visits by British schools, colleges and special centres are normally free of charge.  However, because the Museum is a wholly volunteer organisation with no regular income, a donation is always appreciated.  Copying of learning materials charged at cost.

Refreshments, by prior arrangement
Buffet, including a sweet and tea/coffee £8.50 per person
Tea, coffee, soft drinks and snacks are always available


Hereford & District Preservation Society on site with many superb standing engines working in the Museum courtyard. Always a popular day.

Sunday 25 April

Museum open as part of National Mills Weekend. All the wind and water turbines on display.

Sunday 9 May

Museum Gala Day in-steam with vintage, veteran and classic vehicle cavalcade through Hereford and line-up in Museum courtyard. To take part just ring. Official opening of new Water-on-Tap display and film presentation.

Sunday 25 July

Museum open in-steam as part of the national scheme of Heritage Open Days.
